Exhibition Entries:
Violin and Violas made in BC and Western Canada. Other string instruments are also welcome for the exhibition.
- Maximum 10 instruments per person
- Can be old or new
- Maker can be living or past
- No cost
- Makers or designated persons can accompany their instruments, business cards allowed
- Please notify the organizers of your intent to exhibit as soon as possible, but at latest by February 13th, 2027.
Competition Entries:
Violins and Violas made in the past 5 years in BC and Western Canada
- Limit of 3 violin entries and 3 viola entries
- Made in the past 5 years
- Maker must be living
- Fee: $50 per instrument (includes VMABC membership)
- Please notify the organizers of your intent to submit instruments as soon as possible, but at latest by February 13th, 2027.
Judging:
- Instruments will be judged separately on quality of craft, playability and sound.
- Violin Society of America (VSA) Style Judging: Multiple Gold/Silver/Merit awards for quality.
- Best in show.
- Labels must be covered.
- Initial judging is done on an unscored pass/no-pass. Passing guarantees at least a certificate of merit for that category.
- Entries that pass are scored by three judges.
- Judges vote on whether the entry is ‘of the highest quality’. If they are unanimous in the vote, a medal is awarded.
- Instruments that achieve a certificate of merit or better in the other category receive a gold medal, otherwise they receive a silver medal
