See you in September…

Our June meeting was a great success with 16 members and guests, a birthday cake, and plenty of new violins.  The attendees enjoyed playing four recently made violins, including a first!  We also also had some finely crafted scrolls and there were some custom tools on display including thicknessing gauges, planes and closing clamps.20160617_201611.jpg

Our next meeting will be in September.  Enjoy the summer and keep busy!

April 2016 Meeting

We had a great meeting with a local professional luthier stopping by with four violins a viola that he had made.  About 10 members turned out including a nice mix of our experienced and new builders.  In total we had eight instruments displayed, including an instrument with fancy inlaying.

March 2016 Meeting

We had a great turn out with four new violins.  We had some spectacular instruments highlighting the fine craftsmanship of the makers. Two young students showed off their first instruments and we had the plates and ribs from a violin in process.  We were even treated to some fine violin playing in classic, Chinese, and folk styles.

February 2016 Meeting

Meetings have continued through the fall and winter here in Vancouver.  At our February meeting we had a good turn out of 10 members.  Its an exciting time as there are two new members making their way through their first violins.  We put four member-made violins through their paces and a look a poster of  the ‘Il Cannone’ by Guarneri del Gesu.

September 2015 Meeting

We had our first meeting after the summer break this past Friday.  The meeting had a good turn out with 8 or so regular members and a guest who found out about the club through this website!  Also, we had a variety of Strad and Del Gesu models from three of the more active members.

May 2015 Meeting

The May meeting was held today with a fantastic turnout.  We had about 10 members and eight violins and one viola.  Several of the instruments were ‘hot off the press’, having been completed since last months meeting.  Also on display was a 100+ year old Italian instrument, a great bench mark for aspiring makers!

20150515_194028A guest to the club, who is under tutelage of one of the members, brought his violin rib mold and scroll, his very first, and another member brought several sets of violin plates (belly and back), including one from the exotic hardwood Jatoba.

Some of our more musically talented members tried out all the instruments with repertoire from classical to folk.  A great treat to hear these instruments put through their paces.
