The May meeting was held today with a fantastic turnout. We had about 10 members and eight violins and one viola. The April 17th meeting was held with a great turnout. We had two violins, one viola and even a mandolin in the white! As well a exquisitely carved lion’s head scroll was displayed which will be incorporated into a future instrument.

The March 20th Meeting had a light turn out with three instruments displayed. A small viola, one previously finished violin and one violin in the white, yet to be finished.

Association member Roy Israel held a “How to Make a Violin” one-day course at Lee Valley today. The seminar went very well. There were four attendees, all of whom participated with good interaction and lots of very good questions. The seminar ran form 09:30 and went through to 16:30 with a short lunch break. The club held its January meeting on the 16th. We had a good turn out with 4 violins being displayed and an ‘electric violin’ as well. The instruments being displayed included a “Picasso” instrument with a highly modified outline, two other locally made instruments and a violin restored by a member of the club.

Our monthly meeting was held as usual with good attendance. Four members brought recent violins for playing and examining, including a viola-violin hybrid which was in-the-white. The members also reviewed the library which includes magazines and instructional books on stringed instrument making and bow making, including templates. The next meeting will be January 16th, 2015
